Most mornings I cross the causeway before the sun is fully up and walk three miles of beach.

That’s where most of what I write here starts.

Rhodes to Anywhere is where I think out loud. I’m Kim — I’m embracing my 50’s, I live in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and I recently became an empty nester after launching the last of our three kids. I blogged for eight years when they were small, wrote over 750 posts, and stopped in 2015. This is me picking it back up.

Alongside all of that, I work with my husband Dave at Clarity House, where we help churches find vision and strategic clarity. Most of what I do there happens behind the scenes — if things are running smoothly, that usually means I’m doing my job well. Building alongside him has been one of the real gifts of our life together, and the way we’ve learned to think about vision and calling shows up in nearly everything I write here.

Years ago I put words to what I believe God made me for: to honor Him and love others by helping people maximize their journey by making every moment matter. Four things shape how I try to live that. They’re also, it turns out, a decent map of what you’ll find here.

Open Eyes — because everyone has a journey and a story that needs to be seen.

I notice things on those morning walks. Three men setting out fishing poles at sunrise. A yellow school bus I no longer have to think about. I’m less interested in big conclusions than in what ordinary days are quietly trying to tell us.

Open Home — because everything we have is a missional tool that needs to be used.

Everything we’ve been given is on loan — the house, the table, the guest room, the margin in a week. It’s meant to be spent on people and on what God is building. I write about what that has actually looked like for our family, in the seasons when it came easily and the ones where it cost us something.

Open Table — because everyone has a contribution that needs to be celebrated and shared.

Some of the best things in our life have happened around a table — long meals, other people’s stories, nobody in a hurry to leave. I want this to work the same way, which means it isn’t a monologue. Comments stay open and I read them. I’d rather this be a table than a stage.

Open Future — because every moment is an opportunity that needs to be maximized.

I don’t know what comes next. That’s not false modesty — I’m in a season where the shape of the next things are still being processed or yet to be discovered. I’d rather work that out honestly, than wait until I’ve got it tidy.

Two things you should know before you subscribe.

I won’t tie a bow on the hard parts. Some seasons don’t resolve neatly, and I’d rather be honest about that than hand you an ending I don’t believe.

And I won’t post just to post. No fixed day, no filler. When something’s worth your time, I’ll send it.
